Installation.txt for Mechanics

The cd contains the full interface plus limited functionality. The interface plus the
functionality will allow you to evaluate Mechanics and we hope that it is a tool that
you will find beneficial. You may copy the cd and freely distribute it.

Installation: All needed files required by Mechanics are provided. These include the VB6
Runtime Files and the MDAC_TYP.EXE file.

To install Mechanics place the cd into your cd drive. Click on the Start button at the
bottom of the Windows screen. Click on Run. Click on the Browse button and go to the letter
of the drive that represents your cd drive. Double click on the cd's drive letter. This
should list the contents of the cd. Find and double click on the setup application. There
are a couple of setup listings. The one you want starts with a small s and is listed as an
application. Once you have double clicked on setup, the installation will begin and is usually
quite easy to complete.

You have the option as far as where in the directory the program will be placed. By default,
Mechanics will be placed in the Spartan Software directory in the C: drive. You have the option
of placing the program anywhere you wish.

Windows quirks: Occasionally, Windows will give you a message that the file you are attempting
to load is older that the one you already have. If you receive this message, go with the
recommendation and keep the file you have. Another quirk you may receive is that there is an
error in registering a file. If and when you receive this message, click the Ignore option.
Neither of these messages will affect the installation and operation of the program.

Running Mechanics: Unless you have installed Mechanics in a different directory, browse to the
Spartan Software directory and the Mechanics application. You may use the Windows Explorer to
do this. Once you have reached the Mechanics application, simply double click on it to begin the
program. You may also want to create a shortcut on your desktop for convenience.

It is strongly recommended that once you have successfully installed Mechanics, you carefully
read through the user manual. It contains sample problems for every section in the program. Also
included with each answer is the work used to reach that answer.
