Hi
New to kiting I recently purchased a kite from a local dealer (Sheffield,
UK), and was wondering if anybody could tell me anything about it, as
the guy that sold it to me could not. It's a 6 foot (closer to 6.5)
stunt kite, made by the 'RAREAIR' Kite company apparently based in the UK
but thats all I know.
I would also be interested to hear from anybody who knows of kite groups
or clubs in the South Yorkshire area.

Cheers
Russell Grocott

It could be one of Zbys Kaczmarek's kites. Zbys ran Rare Air Kites from
the UK for a number of years but is now back in Cape Town. He has a range
of stunters - Flash Angel, Wind Warrior, Stealth etc...

Yeah, this sounds quite likely. A description of the sail
might help to identify it - where the colour flashes run,
and so forth. At around the 6 foot size there is the high-wind
Cheeteye (sp?), and Air Devil, possibly the Pro Shield (though
	I think that's closer to 5 foot) ...

Rare Air kites were manufactured by Zbys Kaczmarek in St Ives,
Cornwall until end '94 when he went back to Cape Town.

I have two of his kites, a Pro-Air Cheetah, and a Flash Rat, very
steady kites that I have had loads of great times with, until trick
flying came along and altered my style of flying! But I still love my
Cheetah and would never part with it.

Living in Sheffield you are on the border of two well-established kite
clubs and one newer one.

Sheffield Kite Club is run by Ashley Clark, who trades as Perpetual
Motion (Kite retailers) 127 Devonshire St, Sheffield (is this were you
bought your kite from?).

The Northern Kite Group have meetings all over Yorkshire. The nearer
ones to you are Wakefield and Bradford. Tel Ron Ogden on 0161 682
9308 for more detials.

There are meetings at Roundhay Park, Leeds too. Contact The Leading
Edge Kite Co, The Corn Exchange, Call Lane, Leeds - Tel: 0113 245
3223.

The Midlands Kite Fliers have several members in the
Chesterfield/Sheffield area. The sites nearer to you where we meet
are in Derbyshire and Leicestershire. This year we have two kite
events in Nottinghamshire.

For more information on The Midlands Kite Fliers visit our pages in
the sig below, or call me on 01332 669203

I will email you a calender of our events seperately (too long to list
here) and I look forward to finding out what Rare Air kite you have
bought.

Rare Air have recently released a trick kite called the XnTrik. It is a high
aspect ratio kite with bowed leading edges, deeply cambered sail and wing tip
vents. It has a 2.1m wingspan and is available in a Carrington version
(220grams) and an Icarex version (200grams). I think that it costs about
UK60.

Cheerio
