Am cleaning out kite stuff and will give away, to anyone who will pay the
shipping, a full-size (60" spine, 60" spar) Garber diamond target kite replica
in nice heavyweight nylon zippered case with foam blocks protecting rudder and
rudderhorns. Flies, but makes a neat display item also.

Yow! Where can I get good plans to build one of these? How hard is it
to fabricate the flying reel and all that?

Thanks,
Kevin

I built mine from the old article in Popular Mechanics (Science? I'm at work
now and don't remember right now). I used aircraft-quality spruce for the
spine and spar (spar since replaced with aircraft plywood), and 1/8" aircraft
plywood for the fin, rudder, and rudder horn. 1.5oz polyester for the sail,
double hemmed with a (polyester?) cording in the hem. Aircraft sillhouette
applied with a permanent marker (to test different markers, I colored patches
on a piece of sail material, fastened it onto my car antenna, and drove up and
down the freeway one lunch hour. The marker that didn't flake off from the
fluttering, I used on the sail. Sanford wide-tip won out...) Email me your
address and I'll send you a copy of the article. I'll post the source
reference here on Monday also.

I wimped out and did not do the retractable reel setup. I just put normal
line clips on and flew it on 150' of line with Sky Claws. Takeoffs were
assisted (BIG heave into the air) and landings were "fly to the side-hover and
step forward".

Best regards,
