For an alternative material for a hem cutter guide, in the UK we have materials
like Tufnel or Bakalite that is reasonably accuireable.
Tufnel is used in the General engineering Trade, once discribed to me as
being made of old rags and Aroldite Glue all compessed to shape, but can be
easily cut and drilled to shape, this can take the heat for a while but gives
off an oily type of smell.
Bakalite is (was) used in electronics as an insulator, the original
material would take the heat, but beware of the plastic replacement! again easy
to cut and drill, but could be dificult to source.
I used an aluminium former when I tried the idea out of the book on the
basis that most soldering irons run too hot for cutting ripstop, and the heat
taken by the aluminium reduced the tip temp by just a little as to have no
effect in the irons capability of cutting. Just dont expect to keep running
100's of metre's at once......Ouch.
Now if anyone's got some Titanium.............
Regards, Peter.

Does anyone know where he is?
