(1-800-827-6364) Subject: Bitch, Moan, Complain............. He we go again. Every time someone talks about a product that they represent, sell, or are remotely affiliated with.... they get flammed for advertising. Dodd, Marty, Peter et al., all of these individuals have spent their time and money to inform the public. They have taken on the daunting task of educating the masses on the finer aspects of sport kiting, and mind you in this arena..... for free. Does anyone ever flame Scott Skinner, Peter Lynn? I am the only representative for Flying Wings kites, and I will premote my products because I LIKE THEM!!!!!!! I WILL ALSO TAUT ANY OTHER PRODUCT THAT I PERSONALLY LIKE. When I post to this PUBLIC domain, I can say what ever I want. Remember, you don't have to read my postings... it's your dime! Now, I don't agree that I should be allowed AS A PRODUCT REP. to say "My kite is cool and only costs $XXXXX", but why the hell can't I premote my products. How many people out there know what my kites look like, and what if they do and don't know where to get them, or how about my phone number? Am I not entitled to let people know that there is a kite available that they might enjoy? Is what I'm doing not the same as someone posting a kite review, or a picture, or even their own web page? Is it different because I might get paid to distribute kites? David Lord is/was paid to be an engineer.... should he not be allowed to post his spar research and his findings? Personally.... Dodd's flight school techniques have not only helped me, but every single person I have spent my own personal time teaching how to fly and enjoy stunt kites. I promote his video, and get absolutely nothing in return. I also utilize D. Lord's information on spars, as well as Andy's and Marty's descriptions on how to do new and exciting moves. What I'm saying is that this is about communication.......If you don't like what you hear (read) ........ change the station. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 14 Sep 1995 01:24:13 -1000 From: leamanmw@gov.nb.ca (Michael W. The problem is that the station is rec.kites, and if I change the station, I won't get to see any of rec.kites at all. Now, if there were a separate station (that is, a separate usenet group) for advertising, it would make sense to say "if you don't like what you hear (read), change the station." That said, my own feeling is that most of the posts on rec.kites that can be construed as advertising are perfectly OK with me. I feel that the guideline for "advertising" should be that it must be narrowly directed, not repeated too often, and reasonably polite. An ad for kite flying classes, or a new kind of kite, directed to rec.kites, is narrowly directed as it ought to be. (An ad for immigration lawyers, sent to every single usenet group, is not.) I feel that ads are more polite is they are strong on real, hard information, and soft on rhetoric (e.g. "you'll love it, it's so cool"). That's my two cents, for what it's worth. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
