I'd like to also say that I looked through the ftp.hawaii archives already. Axles- I understand that an axle consists of stalling the kite, then pulling on the lines so the kite pivots around its center. I'm confused as to whether the kite is vertical or on its back or belly. These may be separate tricks, but I'd still like some further explanation. Peels- What's the difference between a Peel and a foil kite. People seem to mention Peels in the same contexts as quad-foils, such as buggying kites. What's different? Number of lines? General shape? Box of Tricks- People seem to speak very highly of the Box of Tricks. Unfortunantly I can't seem to find it in any of my catalogs. Does anyone know of a catalog where I can find it? Thanks for answering some basic questions. ********************************************************* * Greetings from behind the redwood curtain; Arcata, CA * * Dave Neumeier don1@axe.humboldt.edu :) * ********************************************************* = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sun, 12 Nov 1995 11:23:28 -1000 From: Martin Thomas Message-Id: <816211408snz@fizz.demon.co.uk> Organization: Fizz Sport Kites Subject: A couple of basic questions For a full list of retailers of the Box Of Tricks and other Fizz Sport Kite products in the United States please contact our distributor, Dodd Gross at D J Sportkites International, e-mail Djskites@aol.com Best wishes Martin -- MARTIN THOMAS Martin@fizz.demon.co.uk http//dcpu1.cs.york.ac.uk:6666/~tom/new-fizz.html FIZZ SPORT KITES - Tel/Fax +44 (0)127 453 2899 (Manufacturing/trade enquiries) THE LEADING EDGE KITE COMPANY - Tel/Fax +44 (0)113 245 3223 (Retail enquiries) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sun, 12 Nov 1995 05:44:44 -1000 From: dgomberg@ednet1.osl.or.gov (David Gomberg) Message-Id: <4854pc$2br@ednet1.osl.or.gov> Organization: Eastern Oregon State College Subject: Re: A couple of basic questions What's the difference between a foil and a peel? Actually, that's a good question, and much like asking the difference between a car and a BMW. You see, a peel is a *type* of foil. Some people would say is is a pretty good one, but in kiting, you can find folks to disagree with almost any opinion. "Foils" can be single line, or multi line (two, four, or even more). Some, like the parafoil or flowform are flown on one line and can be quite large. Some, like the Flexifoil (another brand name) contain a spar to increase rigidity. And others, like the Sky Tiger, Quadrifoil, and Force 10 are flown with four lines and designed primarily to power buggys. All "foils" depend on the ram-air inflated airfoil concept developed by Domina Jalbert. Think of it as a kite shaped like an airplane wing - flat bottom and curved top. The Peel was developed by Peter Lynn and comes in several sizes. It is a two-line foil which is used primarily for buggying. Hope that helps. I'm sure my meager knowledge of the buggy subject will attract a fair amount of response. Look up "Reference -> Axel" at http://www.kfs.org/kites. Don't miss the video-clip! >Peels- What's the difference between a Peel and a foil kite. People >seem to mention Peels in the same contexts as quad-foils, such as >buggying kites. What's different? Number of lines? General shape? The Peel is 2-line, with a sophisticated bridle for consistant canopy support and better steering. The Paua, developed from it is designed to provide more pull in light wind and less pull in strong wind. >Box of Tricks- Does anyone know of a catalog where I can find it? Hmmm... You might find it easier with a UK dealer - there are a number listed in the Address FAQ. The guys at http://www.kiteshop.co.uk might be a good bet, 'cos they are internet aware and in the same country as the builder (Tim Benson/Fizz) Andrew -- New to rec.kites?
