OK, I'm trying to answer the General's question. My assumption is that
I am supposed to look it up in the book, find a date then show him the
foil card with the matching date. But to see the book I need to distract
him. Giles said the general likes Modern Art, and the general said he
used to have a lovely view through the window. So I need to open up
that window. I assume the celery points to it, and the cannonball could
roll down the celery and smash the wall. However I can't get the
cannonball to the top. So - am I on the right track?

On other fronts: I can't get the front door open or the crate open. I
don't know what to do with the gnomon or the dimpled rock. Do I need to
solve these before I can go on? Or will I get the answers after talking
to the general? If not, can I have some help, because I am stumped.

Thanks,
-Jim
