This would be one possible explanation, yes.

It is an original 1764. I added some RAM chips and expanded it to 512kB,
which makes it a 1750. :)

So it looks like there were three different Infocom interpreter versions
on the 64. I'll check one of these images with the last version
tomorrow if x64 has a working REU emulation.
