Ok as anyone who has played about on the Croquet Lawn will know I goofed
pretty badly with this bit of information.

You don't need to uproot the pole at all and in fact it is the last thing
you want to do since you will get lost (or would do if the game let you).

Try the command 'pace west' and then digging. This is perhaps an obscure
command in that not everyone things of pacing unless they came across the
verb elsewhere: I was stuck at one point in the game and tried to
'pace up and down' only to find I got the error:

You can't use multiple objects with that verb.

Et voila! A new verb ;)

     Martin

P.S. and before anyone tries digging everywhere in the lawn it is 24x24
paces in size i.e. 576 locations to dig in ... play the game
      properly ;)
