Yes, the same Mark Howell who wrote ZIP also wrote a program called
"inforead" which does exactly what you ask.  You can ftp it from the
if-archive on ftp.gmd.de or its mirror at wuarchive.wustl.edu in the
if-archive/infocom/tools/ztools directory.
