I've recently been exploring the source code for Perdition's Flames, an
adventure by High Energy Software (the people who brough us TADS), and it
occurs to me that I have seen very little discussion about the game
around here. That makes sense, because it actually costs money, but I
thought that I should make you all aware of it, regardless. Here's a
description:

"Perdition's Flames" is a fantasy text adventure game by Michael Roberts.
You've died and gone to Hell! Explore a land that no living mortal has
ever seen. This innovative game has all of the usual great TADS
features, and it may be one of the friendliest text adventures
ever written! Being dead has its advantages -- you don't have to eat
or sleep, you can carry as much stuff as you want, and best of all,
you can't die! Plus, this may be the first text adventure ever to
be certified 100% MAZE FREE! The game package includes the software,
the game manual and hint book, a full fold-out map of the game, and
the Official Tourist's Guide to Hell. THIS GAME IS NOT SHAREWARE; IT
IS AVAILABLE ONLY DIRECTLY FROM HIGH ENERGY SOFTWARE.
   $25 (weight: 0.25 pounds)

Perdition's Flames is quite puzzle-oriented, but the puzzles themselves
are extremely elegant (with an exception or two). Of particular note is
a puzzle in which you are a ghost, unable to touch anything, hounded by
paranormal scientists, and yet somehow you have to get an important item
from the "hanuted" house's attic to the "portal to Hell" in the basement.
Or maybe you prefer blowing yourself through walls. Or maybe you'd like
to jump into a river of lava. Whatever you want to do, do it, because
you can't die!

The reason I mention this now is because the only complaint people have
had lately about Curses has been its tendency towards "guess the verb"
or, more precisely, "guess the grammar" puzzles. Having studied the
source to Flames, it is clear that Mike Roberts has gone to great lengths
to ensure that whatever you want to do can be done on the first try.

Incidentally, I'm not an employee of HINRG -- just a satisfied customer.

Here's the address, and I suggest that if you can do without some other
$25 item (a few things come to mind...), this is a purchase worth making.
