     After seeing the name "Meldrew" so many times, I started seeing the
letters
of it in "Marie Swelldon." I crossed out the M, e, l, etc., and the
remaining
letters are "aislon"; whence "Alison Meldrew."

     There's a hint that Alison used a pseudonym in Roger's entry in the
History, vol. II.
