                                MADICON III
                             April 8-10, 1994
                          Harrisonburg, Virginia

Guests--Madicon's Guest of Honor will be Sharyn McCrumb, author
of The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter, voted the Best Novel of 1992
by the Appalachian Writer's Association. She has also written
classic fan novels such as Bimbo's of the Death Sun and Zombies
of the Gene Pool. Other guests will be at the con to talk about
various gaming systems and fan activities!

Anime!--The Animation room will be open for the full hours of the
Convention, running a variety of programs on a large TV. Drop by
for ten minutes or several hours!

Book Swap!--One new feature going on at Madicon III will be the
Book Swap. Bring those old S/F books that you've read through,
and exchange with other fans without paying the overhead of a
used book store!

Con Suite!--Complimentary food will be served throughout con
hours; however, Real Food is always recommended to supplement
your snacking. In addition to the Con Suite, we will have tons of
lounge space
scattered about the activity rooms!

Costume Contest!--Awards will be given out for the best costume!
Dress in any genre!

Dance!--The Dance will be the highlight of the evening, including
many fun events! Wear normal clothes or wear your costume! Be
sure to be there!

Dealers!--The Huckster room will be there again, with a wide
range of dealers. Save up your money to get your gaming supplies,
books, jewelry, and costumes at the Con!

Demonstrations, Discussions, and Panels!--Several topics of
interest will highlight these events. In the past, we have had
fire-eating demonstrations, costuming sessions, game
comparisons/contrasts, amateur video presentations, and author
book signing sessions.

Filking!--A separate room will be available for those with their
own instrument, or who just wish to join in on the singing! Feel
free to participate or just watch! A Bardic Circle will be run
throughout the Con!

Gaming!--Madicon III will feature official RPGA tournament
adventures, including AD&D Ravenloft (2 rounds!) "The Crying of
Trees, AD&D Forgotten Realms Living City "The Great Green Sheep
Mystery", Champions "Champions of the Dark Realm", Shadowrun "The
Florida Key", and Star Trek "Triangle Trade"!
Non-RPGA members are very welcome in these events, and
people who have never experienced role playing should jump right
in! Each tournament adventure will offer prizes for the best
role-playing, including a possible total of $285 in gift
certificates to TSR's Mail Order Hobby Shop! Each and every group
of players will have at least one winner!
A special surprise for the weekend will be a head-to-head
game, where two different groups of player characters compete
against each other to accomplish their goals! Each group will be
in a different room, with the game master moving back and forth.
Prizes will also be offered for this event!
Besides all of the role-playing games going on, there will
be quite a few board, war, and strategy games! Popular events
from the past will continue: the Amazing and Wild Clay-O-Rama,
the Third Annual Diplomacy Tournament, and the Third Annual Axis
& Allies Tournament! Space will be devoted to leave the
Battletech game set up all weekend, with a 3-D relief playing
area covering about 100 square feet!
Madicon III will also have Britannia, Gamma Knights,
Kingmaker, Past Lives, Pax Britannica, Risk, Shogun, Star Fleet
Battles, and a whole lot more!

LARP!--The Live Action Role Playing game will be run by ILF, the
Interactive Literature Foundation, and is entitled "Miskatonic
Class Reunion". It is set in the horror genre of the Call of
Cthulu game, though players need not be familiar with CoC to
participate. Live action games are great! For only $6, you can't
afford not to give it a shot!

Movies!--As with the Anime room, popular SF/F episodes and films
will be shown during all Con hours, as well as many cult
favorites. For example, schedule to watch your favorite episode
of Star Trek with other die-hard fans, or just pop in for that
extra half-hour between games!

Local Fan Clubs!--Members of three local fan clubs will be on
hand as well as running various exciting demonstrations during
the weekend. LORE is the local chapter of the RPGA, U.S.S.
Dilemma is the local chapter of Starfleet, and SFFG is the JMU
club geared towards fan-related activities of all types.

Registration--The hours for Madicon III will be 4:00pm-Midnight
Friday, 7:00am-Midnight Saturday, and 7:00am-3:00pm Sunday. All
attendees must present a valid picture ID at time of registration
to receive their membership badge. Badges must be worn at all
times for admittance to events or rooms.

Weapons Policy--We are sorry, but weapons of any type, real or
replica, are absolutely prohibited. Those who bring them will be
asked to return them to their vehicle. Madicon cannot store such
items at the registration desk or elsewhere. Such items include
any sort of firearm, projectile, or melee weapon.

Directions--Use any Virginia State map to follow Interstate 81 to
Harrisonburg. Get off at Exit #245, Port Republic Road. Go West,
into town. Make an immediate right turn at the light onto
Bluestone Drive, with the sign for James Madison University.
Follow Bluestone Drive with the following on the left, one after
the other: the pond, the tall business building and dorms, and
the batting cage. Behind the batting cage, still on the left,
will be Godwin Hall, with a large parking lot in front. The
entrance to the lot is at the far end. Someone will be waiting on
Friday from 3:00pm-6:00pm with parking permits. The rest of the
weekend is free parking.
Warren Hall is across the railroad tracks and up the hill
slightly, on the right of Bluestone Drive. There are outdoor
steps at the closest entrance, leading up to the concrete patio.
Don't enter Warren Hall, but follow the patio to the right and
enter Taylor Hall. There you will find the Registration desk
where further information, the program, and a detailed map of
town and campus will be provided!

Local Accommodations--Madicon IV is tentatively planned at the
Sheraton Inn, Route 33, Harrisonburg, VA. Please patronize the
Sheraton and tell them you're staying there because of a
recommendation from Madicon! The Sheraton is a wonderful hotel,
with many facilities that we will make full use of in 1995. Your
rates for Madicon III will be only $56 an evening for 1-4 people,
so call (703) 433-2521 and make your reservation! Right next door
to the Sheraton is the Comfort Inn, at (703) 433-6066, which has
rooms for only $45 a night!

SFFG is the Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild of
                         James Madison University
