Freeware has come to mean a work that can be redistributed at will, without
charging for the actual work, but the author retains copyright.  As opposed
to public domain (no copyright, do what you want with it) or the GPL
(distribute at will, charge for it if you want, as long as the source is
available).  Usually it's spelt out ("This game is freeware; you may
distribute it as you please, as long as my copyright notices remain
intact.") though...
