Uhm, if the book has the cover, it cannot have been stolen from the
publisher, as the publisher only buys back the number of books equal to the
number of covers they received.  Since the cover was attached to the book,
the publisher cannot have received the cover, and so the book was the
property of the bookseller at the time of sale.
