As another, totally arbitrary data point, the grue in the "Wishbringer"
novellization doesn't seem to have an actual problem with light, but rather is
bound by a complex system of rules governing what must happen to people to see
her (or parts of her).

Therefore, it must depend on the grue.  Or maybe the breed...Or something...
