Yes, they ask permission.

It's entirely up to you. But hey -- it's money. It's also your name on a 
commercial game product, which doesn't hurt the resume if you're in the 
programming business, or whatever.

It's also a free copy of the commercial game product, or at least it was 
last year. That didn't hurt. :)
