I use Boxer TKO as a DOS editor. Now I mainly use Multi-Edit for
Windows. Both can handle huge files since they can access all memory.
Both editors also let you set up syntax parameters for languages. Not
only is it really cool to see Inform 6.05 syntax highlighted, but it
also helps you catch errors. Both editors also let you hook in the
compiler; you can compile your code with a keystroke & track the errors
against the actual source text.

Multi-Edit has other great features like 'collapsing' text so that each
Object only takes up 1 line. You can scan quickly through your code &
expand the section of code you want to see. FWIW, Multi-Edit (American
Cybernetics) granted a competitive upgrade from Boxer TKO for an
excellent price.
