How about a text-based version of the (fictional) graphics-based game
described in Andrew Greeley's novel "God Game", in which the player
has control of non-living things, such as the weather, but only
limited control over NPC's (i.e., they can "hear" the player's commands
as a voice in their heads or a gut feeling, but may well choose
to disregard the commands)?
