Just a minor point here... TADS is neither DOS nor dependent on DOS.
TADS can run on a variety of operating systems including the Mac and
several flavours of UNIX. This doesn't answer your question but I use
BBEdit on the Mac and have been quite happy with it. I'm sure there
are plenty of wonderful freeware and shareware programmers' editors
for DOS out there. Check out the DOS programmers' newsgroups and see
what folks there use.

I have a TADS Tip Sheet in the Examples directory in /programming/tads
on ftp.gmd.de, and if someone would send me some helpful DOS-related
TADS tips (such as a list of helpful text editors) I'll gladly
incorporate them into the tip sheet. Since I generally use Macs and
UNIX machines myself I can't offer too many constructive comments in
this department.
