What do you mean with "to study operating systems"? Minix is a very
good source to study operating systems (even for self-learning; the
Tanembaum book is good enough). If you are trying to create your own
operating system from scratch... let me be a little crude: if you are
having problems with this, you will probably have a pain trying to write
your own operating system.

	Why not? That's perfectly good.

Do you mean "the second partition"? Not at all. The default
installation supposes that, but it's not really needed (but much easier,
anyway).

Do you mean "two partitions"? Not at all. The default installation
creates two logical partitions INSIDE a primary partition (what MSDOS
calls "logical drives" inside a "extended partition").

This way Minix is not in the second primary partition. Anyway, Linux
can also be installed in just one primary partition (defining two or
more logical partition inside it: one for /, one for swap,...).
