By "start with Minix" do you mean as an operation system, or as a learning
tool? Tanenbaum's book is really focused on the creating of an operating system
(with Minix as a simple example).
If you aim to use Minix as an OS, there many websites that can help you out
with downloading Minix, using Minix, and getting applications for Minix. I
personally recommend http://minix1.hampshire.edu/ ; as it provides a lot of
info and links to other websites to help a newcomer out.
