You need to recompile the kernel to enable tcip networking. Look for the 
3c503 ethernet package and follow the directions.

I have a 286 running minix in my garden shed, with ethernet coax linking
back to my house. It controls the garden sprinklers via a parallel port
interface. I have plans to connect sensors allowing it to sense temperature
soil moisture level etc.
