At the risk of fanning the flames further, somebody should point out that
the # prompt as evidence of the crime of working as root will not hold up
in a court of law. ( And the further evidence that the current directory is
not in the user's path is circumstantial as well.) Many shells allow you
to set the prompt to be whatever you want. Some people just like the #
prompt -- it gives that sense of root power with none of the risks. :-) :-)
