Neither, actually - in 1992 the only computers I was aware of were
DOS+Win machines and Macs.  I though UNIX-type machines (like Linux
and Minix) were those big supercomputers and mainframes.

I saw it when I was browsing through the archives for the Minix-L
mailing list at http://listserv.nodak.edu/archives/minix-l.html. 
According to the mailing list archives, Linux was first announced in
October 1991 (Oops - I was off by a year)
