Linux would work quite fine on this machine (well, it would work not too bad
:-) but you should install 8MB for the install process that can be taken out
again aftwerwards. Minix would run much better on this machine but you would
get into trouble with ppp over modem; I think there is still no solution yet
(I only use minix on a small AT286). Though it might sound very funny - there
is still the possibility to use DOS (*meep* *meep*) - I am not sure about it 
but if I remember me right there was some router software written for DOS.
If you want to invest some money (up to $300) you can take a look onto the
lots of old commercial UNiX derivats.
