Hmmm.  Which version of vim?  I would recommend 3.0.

Try simplifying "complex thing".  Actually, what is "complex thing"?

For the record, configure looks for <minix/config.h>, so somebody must
have tested it.

It is the default, but configure should only be using POSIX Bourne shell 
here-doc's.  I've run configure on many non-Linux UNIX platforms without bash
(such as when compiling vim).

Would you mind posting a summary of what you did, if you get it working? Oh, 
and are you running 16 or 32 bit Minix?
