Well, Minix wants to see a PC-compatible. The only thing Minix can use
the BIOS for is to access the hard disk. 

An 80C186 will act like an 8088, you will be limited to 1M (probably
only 640K will be useful). Minix can be used on a 640K XT, so it might
be possible on your palmtop. But I wouldn't bet on it. 

Minix is available for free, try it and let us know what happens.
