I wrote to Margaret directly, but I'll repost here for the interest of
others:

Tnet has been abandoned by its authors, so there is no hope of
overcoming its deficiencies. It does work, however, and provides Minix
1.5 with some capabilities that are still not available with Minix
1.7, notably support of telnet servers and ftp. The Tnet 4 package
with some added documentation is available on ftp.hampshire.edu in
/ftp/asw/minix/net/tnet. There is also a package of ethernet support
for Western Digital, Novell, and 3Com adapters, written by Mariusz
Ostrowski, in /ftp/asw/minix/net/ether.

The Tnet package patches the Minix 1.5 kernel very heavily, and would
be a pain to port to Minix 1.7, which has an independent and genrally
better implementation of the kernel support needed for networking.

Anyone wanting to do such a port anyway would be advised to look just
at the parts of Tnet that are really needed by Minix 1.7, the patches
for the select system call and pseudo ttys. Then the Tnet ftp client
and server and the telnet server could probably be ported.
