I've run Minix 1.5 on a 10MHz XT clone for several years - I keep
it around mainly as my news feed. I've also booted 1.7 on the same
machine, from floppies. You *will* need a hard disk, and with only
640K of memory the root filesystem really needs to be on the HD to
get much useful done. (I put it on an EMS board to speed things up).

But it's pretty solid - can't remember when it last crashed/hung.
