I use Minix 1.5 on an XT with 640kb and a 512 EMS ram disk for
my news feed - about five low-traffic groups total. It's been
pretty solid since 1991 or thereabouts. On the 10MHz XT the
limitation is the serial port driver - I have to lock my 14400
baud modem at 9600 to prevent overrun. However, I get around
825 cps througput on incoming, more or less the maximum allowing
for 'g' protocol overhead.

UUCP is solid, wnews is solid, tass is solid, umail and wmail
are pretty flakey.
