Box 93 Toongabbie NSW 2146 Australia ------------------------------------------ Western Australian News ----------------------- WAADCA AUGUST GENERAL MEETING ----------------------------- 4th August saw the club's general meeting with a good attendance from members and visitors. Joe VK6ZTN, the club's technical officer reported that the data link between Perth and Sydney is very close to coming back on line, this time through the enthusiastic efforts of a number of amateurs at both ends of the system. The link is planned to have a data capacity of 4800bps. Initially a 1200bps ROSE link will be established and as soon as possible afterwards, a 1200bps NETROM link. This will enable some interesting side-by-side performance comparisons between the two modes. CLUB NEWSLETTER --------------- Phil VK6ADF and Bruce VK6ABR did another excellent job with the club's August newsletter. For some time they have been able to incorporate CAD drawings into the newsletter, but now they have managed to incorporate photographs with Bruce's new video-blaster system. The newsletter contained a couple of pictures of better quality than we have ever been able to achieve by other methods. There was an M1 flare on 11th. The geomagnetic field at Learmonth (WA) was at active to minor storm levels 0900-1500 UT on 6th, otherwise mostly quiet with some unsettled periods for the remainder of the week. Ionospheric F2 critical frequencies at Sydney were mostly near predicted values except for brief depressed periods on 7th and 10th. There was some sporadic E blanketing on 7th and 10th August. Forecast for the next week (13 - 19 August) Solar : Low - moderate, chance of isolated low level M class solar flares Geomagnetic: Quiet until 16-17th, when active periods are expected (coronal hole). Conditions should return to quiet - unsettled levels for 18th and 19th. Ionospheric: Generally good conditions apart from degradations expected during interval 16-17, (especially during local night).
