INTRODUCTION Star Quest Star Quest is a multi-player computer-moderated play-by-mail game of space exploration, alien contact, trading, diplomacy, conquest and adventure. You are the commander of a space empire and you decide how to deploy your empire's assets and resources. Winning Star Quest You do not have to play Star Quest to win, great enjoyment can be had from just playing the game and the interaction between the players, BUT for those who wish to go for victory the following victory conditions apply. VICTORY POINTS Empires accumulate Victory points per turn from the empire's current positions on the first five Ranking Tables (see below). Each empire accumulates points equal to 101-current rank position, e.g. if your Empire is in position 21 on the tech table you get 101-21 = 80 VPs. NOTE Victory point accumulation only starts on SD 5 of the game although empires are ranked from SD 1. VICTORY The first empire to accumulate 25,001 Victory points wins the game. Empire & Alliance Rankings Empires are rated against each other in six areas, the first five of which are used for Victory Point purposes: (1) Ships - (2) Units - (3) Technology - (4) Wealth - (5) Colonisation - (6) Overall - current Victory Point totals. Starting Star Quest When you join Star Quest you will receive a Operational & Technical Manual, a Star chart and your initial empire set-up. The Operational & Technical Manual covers all you need to know to start playing Star Quest. By playing Star Quest you will discover facets of the game not mentioned in the rules or only briefly explained in the rules. The Star Chart shows the location and ID number of all the 749 stars that make up the Star Quest Universe. The area covered is a sphere 100 light years in diameter. Stars on the chart are positioned in a three dimensional array as measured by Cartesian X, Y, and Z co-ordinates in lightyears. Although the number of Stars does not vary, the number of planets and orbits around each star varies from game to game. Your initial Empire set-up will tell you what and where your possessions are, your current technology values and other useful information. Stardate (SD) Processing is carried out by the computer, working on the last orders submitted for each Empire. Each processing is identified by a Stardate number, where Stardate 3000 is game start and incremented each move after that. Processing is performed every two weeks, except where holidays or postal delays prevent this. Empires You control one, or two, of the 100 empires in the game. Each empire controls a varying number of worlds, ships and units.
