Since everybody has been asking about this place, I have transcribed all the information from a pamphlet I received after attending the museum. On a related note, there was also a videogame exhibit at the Franklin Institute in Philledelphia, PA which had games from pong up to the fancy-pants new virtual reality games. Rumor has it that it has been taken down (to storage? to another museum?)... P.P.S. I have heard about (but never visited) an area in South New Jersey called "Ocean City" which, although not containing a musem, has a mind-boggling collection of golden oldies (pinball and video) in active service throughout the area. It is *highly* recommended by several net.gamers. -- THANX...Gregg day 214.684.7380 night 214.530.2495 TEXAS NOT CANADA! woodcock@bnr.ca woodcock@sdf.lonestar.org bn202@cleveland.freenet.edu *CLASSIC VIDEOGAME COLLECTOR BUY/SELL/TRADE PRE-NINTENDO (ARCADE/HOME)* "If you quote me on this I'll have to deny it; I won't remember because I have such a bad memory. From: tiesmasc@egr.msu.edu (Scott R Tiesma) Newsgroups: rec.games.pinball Subject: The St. Louis Coin-Op and Video Game Museum Date: 5 Apr 1995 16:12:23 GMT Well, I was just hopping around the web today, and (heretic that I am), I hopped over the news group rec.video.games.collecting (I'm interested in Donkey Kong Jr. and Dragon's Lair/Space Ace... ) Anyway, I looked through the faq, found an interesting home page, and wallah!!! The St. Louis Coin-Op and Video Game Museum St. Louis, Missouri Some guy visited this place and htmlized his visit with tons of pics. This 'arcade' has some pinballs too Anyway, it's worth checking out at http://sharkie.psych.indiana.edu/rynersw/vids/coinop/coinop.html PS. has anyone else ever heard of/gone to this place... Anyone from St. Louis who can get a list of pins they have??? I'm not done looking through it myself, so I may post more about it but probably not. I've recently started photographing pinball games at coin op auctions around the Midwest. I just can't resist the art on some of the older games. I'll post to RGP with pointers to the expanding pinball section. I'm currently working on a page to compare the artwork from very early video games, such as Omega Race, to pinball games, such as Galaxy and First COntact, and possibly SF pulp fiction artwork. Great stuff! >PS. has anyone else ever heard of/gone to this place... >Anyone from St. Louis who can get a list of pins they have??? The pinball selection was pretty disappointing. They have some old electro-mechanical games, including one where you fly a little florescent plane through the St. Louis arch (seems apropos), and another where you can shoot torpedos at little glowing ships. A couple of pre-transistor pinball games, Superman, Eight Ball, Cyclone, Pac Man, and...not much more. You may be able to pick them out from the pictures... Don't feel too bad about visiting RGVAC. The video game collecting crowd owes a debt of inspiration to the RGP crowd, for example, VAPS vs PAPS. And we'll brush elbows at coin op auctions across the country...I play pinball while waiting for the vids to be auctioned off =') Thanks for visiting the Virtual Museum!
