whips/

     This directory contains the source code and additional
     files for the Woods Hole Image Processing Software (WHIPS).
     Though the WHIPS software can be used for some general image
     enhancement and processing work, the current focus is for the
     development of sidescan sonar processing support.  This
     'support' includes initial digital processing and enhancement
     as well as digital mapping of the sonar swaths.
     
     Software development has been on a Data General AViiON 410 workstation.
     The software has been compiled and tested on other platforms which
     have included a SUN Sparcstation and Digital Equipment Corporation
     DECstations.
     
     The public is welcome to the software though no warranty is implied
     nor should be assumed.  The WHIPS software development continues
     as a work in progress.

PROJ.4/

     The contents of this directory is principally related to the PROJ.4
     cartographic projection system.  Other cartographic source code of generali
     interest is also included.

MAPGEN/

     The contents of this directory are principaly related to the MAPGEN/
     PLOTGEN graphic system.  It is currently a mirror site for
     charon.er.usgs.gov, the primary source of said software.  Other source
     code of general interest is also included.

COAST/

     Public domain coastline information in 'coast' format for use
     with the MAPGEN system.
