Sendmail: mail is returned

Symptom:
Mails are returned with approximately the following error message:

From: Mail Delivery Subsystem
Subject: Returned mail: Local configuration error
To:
To: postmaster@suse.de
The original message was received at Thu, 16 Jan 1997 06:52:57 +0100
from root@Pythagoras.gs10.suse.de [192.168.100.15]

554 MX list for 193.141.17.193.suse.de. points back to Galois.suse.de
554 ... Local configuration error
Cause:
No computer name, but an IP address was declared either as smarthost or
relayhost.
Solution:
Enter a name, or write the IP numbers in brackets. The nameserver will
change by this. Example:
- Declare
hugo@[192.168.0.11] as mail address.
- If you want to use a smarthost for the email (every email sent in
this computer is forwarded), then enter in
/etc/rc.config:
SENDMAIL_SMARTHOST=[192.168.0.11]
This is analogously valid for SENDMAIL_RELAYHOST
.
