You have tried to install the Star Office 6.0 Patch CD by way of the YaST2 module "Patch CD-Update". However, YaST2 reports that it cannot find any patches.
YaST2's attempt to mount the device /dev/cdrom fails.
You have probably activated the IDE-SCSI emulation for the CD or DVD drive at some stage after the installation, without modifying the link /dev/cdrom accordingly. This link was created by YaST2 during the first installation and it was then properly pointed to the IDE device.
Adapt the symbolic link /dev/cdrom accordingly.
Use the command hwinfo --cdrom to find out the device file where the symbolic link should point to:
The output of hwinfo will be similar to:
15: SCSI 00.0: 10602 CD-ROM (DVD) [Created at scsi.230] Unique ID: zyP1.2Z4avO7oKvA Hardware Class: cdrom Model: "TOSHIBA SD-R2102" Vendor: "TOSHIBA" Device: "SD-R2102" Revision: "1A08" Serial ID: "327S200112" Driver: "ide-scsi" Device File: /dev/sr0 Drive Speed: 24 Volume ID: "SUPATCH.P01" Application: "Patch-CD_SuSE_Linux_8.0-2-StarOffice+KDE_(i386)" Publisher: "SuSE Linux AG, suse@suse.de" Preparer: "CD-Team, feedback@suse.de" Creation date: "2002053008393600"
The relevant information can be found in the line starting with Device File: the right device file in this case is /dev/sr0.
Execute the following commands:
cd /dev rm cdrom ln -s /dev/sr0 cdrom
Important: Replace sr0 with the device displayed in your hwinfo output.
Once this has been done, the Patch CD should be detected by the YaST2 module "Patch CD-Update".
Additional Note: If you have more than one CD-ROM device, it might be worthwhile checking if the Patch CD is looked for and found in one of the other drives.
