R. Frontera, San Antonio del Tachira. This venezuelan station on 4760 kHz is
active again since January 26th, now with a better signal (5 here in Caracas)
but a very low modulation, I sent a fax to the station reporting this but
nothing happen, let's see.

Mundial network problem. About the intervention of the goverment on private
broadcasting networks doesn't change the operations inside them. The new owner
only is changing the bureau of Castro's stations for "better operations".

R.Rumbos. This station is having troubles with the 4970 kHz transmitter.
Actually is off the air. I announce the appearance of a complete collection of
new pennants: 4 pennants triangular 19 x 10,5 cms B&W with logo and "en Caracas
670 kHz". "en todo el pais 570 kHz", "para el mundo 9660 kHz" and "en
Venezuela numero 1 en el dial" and 1 rectangular pennant 13 x 11 cms B&W with
logo and frequencies.

R.San Juan de Caraz, Peru. I heard this station on 4733 kHz, 01/24, 33333,
@2321, Broadcasting Cumbia & Romantic mx. Then ID as: "estan en la sintonia de
la Radio de San Juan de Caraz, a continuacion..." by OM, then the holy rosary.

Quite the opposite! I used to hear them pretty regularly when they operated
with only 250 watts on 14917.7 kHz, and my QTH at the time was in Massachusetts.
They've since changed frequency to 17440.1 kHz and then to 9825 kHz (someone
correct me if I'm wrong) but the MUF has steadily declined... The catch is a
little more difficult now, but if you keep your persistence you can get them.

RADIO ESPERANZA, CHILE, 6090 KHZ

I went through my tape of Jan. 15th and found many clear id's of Radio
Esperanza, Temuco, Chile on 6090 kHz. The station has been audible now and then
even since that but sometimes QRMed by Brazil. Luxembourg really seems to have
switched off their sw-transmitter on 6090 which makes this a free frequency in
Europe ... until they lease the transmitter to some US religious group and then
we can enjoy Gene Scott etc. o:-)

KIWI BROADCAST

DATE: Jan-25-95 2:47am

KIWI, the low powered pirate station in New Zealand, will be testing his
transmitter and antenna patterns this weekend. He's looking for reports from
Europe and Asia, mainly, but welcomes letters from everywhere. This will not be
a regular transmission, so expect test tones and the like. Check 7445 kHz USB
after 0630 UTC on Saturday morning, January 28, 1995. He will be on anywhere
from 0630 until the Voice of Free China takes over the frequency at 0850 UTC.
Send reports to: Mr. Graham Barclay; P.O.Box 3174; Onekawa, NAPIER; New Zealand.
*Do not write "KIWI" on the envelope!* He has a new telephone number you can
call during the broadcast: 0064 684 48166. This will replace his old number...
Specifically, he's looking for reports from the Netherlands, Belgium, Alaska,
India, and any other parts of Asia.

sign off on January 21, 1995. Signal: 322 with some RTTY QRM. Program of
huaynos and announcements/time checks by male DJ. Possible ID, but still
presumed log. Incidentally, I called the international operator to get a phone
number for this one, but she said that no radio stations are listed in
Huancabamba at all.

Nice catch by any standard! Come to think of it, the international operator
can't be of much use for cross-reference to radiostations.
You see, the radiostations may be under their own name, and not under
'Radiostations', and the station may be owned by a small advertising firm or
something of the like. The woman in question may have even looked at the wrong
phone book (how much do you expect her to know about Peruvian geography?)
Therefore, I wouldn't cross out the possibility of this station because of the
operator...

KA>> This is the address I got out of the 1995 Passport. Has it changed?
And if so, can anyone tell me the new address.

As it happens, we just learned that the address changed in July 1994, to the
following:
P.O. Box 24-777, Taipei, Republic of China
Phone: +886 (2) 7710151 ext. 2422/2432/2434
Fax: +886 <2) 7519277.
This info was faxed to us from Dave Kenny at BBC Monitoring and came from WRTH
contributer Tetusya Kondo in Japan. BTW, it'll also be on Media Network either
this week or next...

Ondas del Mayo (Nueva Cajamarca, Peru): 6803.12 kHz on Jan 27 at 0055 UTC. SIO:
333. This station is regular evenings and mornings, unless a utility station
wipes it out. Usual program of ads and huaynos.
Radio Sensacion (Huancabamba, Peru): 6895.34 kHz on Jan 27 at 0100 UTC. SIO:
423. Best heard signal yet, but some RTTY QRM. Lots of pop music and about 20
minutes of comunicados (personal messages) before sign off with national anthem.
Many time checks and ID's. Announced broadcast sked: 1200 to 0130 UTC (8 AM
local to 9:30 PM).
La Voz de San Antonio (Bambamarca, Peru): 6627.27 kHz on Jan 27 at 0128 UTC.
SIO: 322. Good signal, but I have terrible line noise here... Usually weak,
but conditions were good. Lots of huaynos and time checks/ID's by announcer.
Radio Vision 2000 (Bambamarca, Peru): 5131.02 kHz on Jan 27 at 0156 UTC. SIO:

Unidentified: 5010.02 kHz on Jan 27 at 0150 UTC. SIO: 222. Broadcast station in
Russian with female announcer. Not // to 5290 kHz. Much QSB so presumed to be
from Asia or Central Asia. Does anyone know which site or station this could
be?

This must be Radio Illimani, La Paz, Bolivia, which has reactivated their old 60
mb frequency and heard lately often in Scamdinavia.

3260, Estereo Carrizal, would be interested in this: only an occasional weak het
in the PM here, but I finally bagged them in the AM. Hrd on 1-17 with carrier
already on at 1050. HC NA at 1058, then drums, ID in Spanish, and surprised to
hear an ID in EG: "From Calceta, Province of Manabi .. . Estereo Carrizal . . .
transmitting directly from the middle of the world. Our frequency is 91 meters,
3260 kHz. Our emissions in Spanish for our listeners all over Latin America . .
. . Thank you for tuning in to our station. Please write to us. Our address
is: Avenida Estudiantil, Quinta Velazquez, Calceta, Manabi, Ecuador. Our phone
number is 685-472 [not sure of last two digits], area code 5935." Mostly HC mx,
anncr mentioned "Alegria del Campo" at one point (maybe the prgm name), and I
think there was mention of FM during a SP ID. Also had what appeared to be
telephone conversations with listeners. EG anmt was repeated twice more before
1125 when they were barely perceptible and I tuned out. Address was the same as
given by Rich McVicar on DXPL. Signal was poor, with quite a bit of QRN. I
have tried the channel several mornings since, and there is often an open
carrier but no programming that I can discern.

people to positively report the test so far are Mark Connelly in Cape Cod and

that, but think it would be difficult to get at least three month's notice out

next test 3 solar turns from the nearest auroral opening to when I'm doing the

Because these mobile SS language programs will depend on battery power, the

the need to circumvent both nations' monitoring of these propagandists hours
will be irregular. In deference to radio hobbyists worldwide, we will attempt
some special DX programs that would include an EE cassette prepared by a DX
