CUBA
----
* RADIO REBELDE, Bauta; At the present moment, Cuba is present on the
Tropical Bands in just one frequency, 5025 kHz. The station is
Radio Rebelde and the program heard is the same national network
program that goes on the air on AM and FM.
The 5025 kHz transmitter in use now is a 10 kW Siemens of 1961
vintage. It is used on the Upper Side Band Mode , with full
carrier. So the effective AM equivalent power should be around 2.5
kilowatts. The low level SSB generator is feeding the Siemens with
100 % modulated signal that is amplified in a linear mode.
The antenna in use is a simple half wave dipole, erected at a
height that should provide maximum coverage to the 0 to 1000
   kilometer mark, intended service area.
The antenna does have a secondary low angle lobe, that provides a
DX signal, often heard in many areas of the world when propagation
is OK. Radio Rebelde used to have a 3365 kilohertz frequency,
running just 500 watts. This was a very old transmitter, and
unfortunately it is no longer on the air.
Any reports of the Radio Rebelde Tropical Band outlet on 5025 kHz
   must be sent to:
Dpto de Relaciones Publicas, Apartado 6277, Habana, Cuba 10600.
    (AC, 19/11/94)
