NEWS	Oct, 2000
----------------------

As always, see the changelog for credits for patchs and additions.

Release 0.4.2
-------------
New Things:
Gfax now has a spool dialog. This allows you to look at Hylafax
jobs that have been sent and reside on the server.

Release 0.4.1
-------------
New Things:
We now have drag and drop. You can drag a file onto Gfax from
the filemanager and send it. It should be a Postscript or G3
facsimile file for best results. We will change this is the
	future.

When sending faxes over the newtork with Hylafax there is now a
	progress bar.

	Small patch to ftplib

Release 0.4.0
-------------
New Things:
This is the start of network fax support using Hylafax.
There is both internal and external support for Hylafax.

The Internal support uses Gfax to transport the fax over
the network so Hylafax doesn't need to be installed on
the local machine. External support uses a locally installed
	copy of Hylafax.

When faxing from applications one should always configure
a postscript printer as it has the best support.

Many thanks to Till for his code contributions.

There is finally a Druid available for configuring mgetty.
It only configures options not well served by defaults.

The advanced mgetty options can still be tweaked in the
	normal setup screen.

There is a new icon for the GNOME menu. (needs a bit of work yet)

Release 0.3.8
-------------
New Things:
I've removed any support for Efax. This completes
the fax transport agents that are supported. They include
Mgetty+Sendfax, and Hylafax. If someone wants to add Efax
support they can mail me patches. Note that Efax support
was never really there except in the glade file.

The current transport agent is now displayed in the bottom
status line of the main Gfax window.

Bugs-fixed:
Only display phone book entries that hav fax numbers.

Release 0.3.7
-------------
Bugs fixed:
Finally fixed the phone number with spaces problem when mgetty
was used for sending faxes. I actually remove the spaces from
the number now as the newer versions of mgettys faxspool program
has a phone book feature that does't like any spaces in the
	numbers.

Phone prefixes were also not being added to the phone number
if they were put in on the front window.

Release 0.3.6
-------------
New things:
Gfax will now show the process of the fax that is being sent by
the transport agent if you so choose.

Bugs fixed:
Fixed having phone numbers that have spaces in them.
Fixed crash if SendFax hit with nothing to fax.
Change order of hylafax options sent to sendfax, it's significant.

Release 0.3.5
-------------
New things:
I've pretty much completed adding the options for
mgetty+sendfax. All options most users would want
are able to be configured from Gfax.

The fax.allow and fax.deny security files can be
edited and updated from withing Gfax. Mgetty uses
these to know which users can or cannot use the fax
	system.

"faxrunq" which is the program that actually toggles
sending the file in mgetty can now be added and disabled
in your crontab file. I suggest running it once per
	minute.

Bugs fixed:
when sending a fax from the "Fax File" button your file
	is no longer deleted.

Release 0.3.4
-------------
Bug fix. 0.3.3 pointed at the wrong location for the
gfax.glade file.

Release 0.3.3
-------------
This is getting bad. All users of 0.3.2 *must* upgrade.
0.3.2 doesn't work. Sorry people.

Release 0.3.2
-------------
All users of 0.3.1 should upgrade. This is a bug fix release.
The messages.h file had errors that would cause a bad
sendfax.config file to be written.

Release 0.3.1
-------------
This release fills in the missing options for the
sendfax.config file under mgetty. It also has some simple
checks on values written to that file. Help works in setup
on the "Mgetty" page.

Release 0.3.0
-------------
Right, we have a major change here. I have completely
re-written gfax to use libglade for all GUI stuff. This
release is written in C instead of Obj-C (sad face) and
adds one new feature which is the configuration of mgetty
from within Gfax.

Release 0.2.1
-------------

This release is just a change so Gfax will compile under the
new gnome-objc-1.0.2 libraries.

Release 0.2.0
-------------

OK there are a few new features and some bug fixes since 0.1.1.

NEW FEATURES

Email notify.
You can now set your email address for receiving status of
sent facsimilies. This will become more useful when network
	faxing is complete.

Default phone prefix.
A default prefix can be set for your outgoing phone line.
Many people have to dial 9 to get an outside line, you can
set it here. Of course you can always include the prefix
in you phone book entry but it's ugly at best.
Another use may be "*70" which in my phone exchange will
disable call waiting for one phone call.

Fax File.
There is now a button that will allow you to choose a file
from disk and then fax it. I use this quite often by
preparing a page in WordPerfect, printing to file and then
sending with Gfax whenever I want.

Gnome Help System.
A Gnome compliant help system is now integrated and can be
	reached through the help menu.

Delayed Faxing.
The code to delay the sending of facsimilies is now working.
I haven't tried this with Mgetty+Sendfax but it does show
correctly in test mode. Hylafax works fine.

BUGS FIXED

- Cleaned up the test mode if no filename.
- Removed lots of strcpy's, replaced with g_strdup.
- Fixed test mode so it won't delete the test file.
- Fixed segmentation fault on file open test.
- Fixed segmentation fault if no filename.

Release 0.1.1
-------------
New README
Created and released rpms for Linux, glibc, i386.
Gfax now supports automake / configure for easier compiling.

I've added support for two command line options which print
the fax command but doesn't actually submit it to the fax system.
The options are --test or -t.
Added some keybindings, see the tooltips for help.

Release 0.1.0
-------------
Vcard phone book support is available. Phone books are created
with GnomeCard. Gfax doesn't yet have the ability to create
or edit vCard phone books.

Phone book names are best kept to eleven characters or less.

Pablo Saratxaga <pablo.sarachaga@ping.be> has added full i18n
support, along with a spanish language file. Note: this must be
updated for version 0.10.

Changed settings code to use the standard "gnome_config" routines.
All settings are now kept in ~/.gnome. (~ is your home directory)

To add a phone book
-------------------

1) Run "gnomecard" and create your a phone book. It will save
the default as ~/.gnome/GnomeCard.gcrd. You may save it as
   something different if you want.

2) Run Gfax and press the "Phone Book" button.
3) Press the "Add Book" button.
4) Enter a phone book name such as "Main" or "Personal"
5) Hit the browse button and select the actual file name
   of the phone book.
6) Press "OK"

Your phone book name should now appear in the left list box. When
you click on it it will load the names in the right list box.

Until I get the "Delete Book" button coded, edit the ~/.gnome/Gfax file
to remove phone books.

PS:
I had trouble getting gnomecard to save once I made changes
when running. Running a few times from the command line helped,
I was able to make multiple phone books. Also gnomecard won't
accept a filename on the command line, bummer!

Enjoy!
