                              Command : TORPEDO

 SYNTAX:
   [mc ##] Command : torpedo <SECT> <SUBS>

The torpedo command is used to attack enemy surface vessels with your subma-
rines. You specify a sector in which to search for enemies, and a list of
subs that are to perform the attack.

To participate in the torpedo attack, each of the specified subs must have
mobility, shells, crew, and must be in the target sector, Each participating
submarine will be charged mobility, and if the subs actually fire, a number of
shells equal to the number of torpedo tubes on the sub.

Each submarine will attempt to acquire a juicy target at which to shoot from
among the non-allied ships in the sector. Targeting is left up to the com-
manders on each sub. Each sub attempts to sneak in, torpedo its chosen vic-
tim, and leave without being detected.

Enemy escort ships (ships that have the ability to depthcharge submarines)
have a chance of spotting the sub on the initial attack run. If the sub is
spotted, the protecting enemy ship will perform a depthcharge attack on the

sub, driving it away from the target. If the sub is not spotted, it will exe-
cute its torpedo attack, one per functioning torpedo tube.

After the torpedo attack occurs, enemy escorts will attempt to find and attack
the sub once again. Note that it is easier to locate a sub after an attack
has occurred, than before.

The chance of an enemy escort vessel spotting your sub depends on the relative
tech relationship between your sub and the escort, with the higher tech having
the advantage.
