1) Note:
========
This driver is the newest driver, developed by the chip manufacturer S3.
Because of the final release for OS/2 2.1 was in june and many different
-releases and patches are still exiting, problems with this driver may occur.
We'll have the newest OS/2 drivers as soon as possible at our mailbox.

The OS/2 2.x drivers that are developed by SPEA Software AG are expected in
IV./1993 - I./1994.

2) File extraction and creating installation disks
==================================================
1. It is supposed, that you have extracted the both files S3OS2_1 and
S3OS2_2 under DOS to two floppy disks:
				S3OS2_1 B:
				S3OS2_2 B:
You must label this two floppy disks with DISP 1 and DISP 2.
(DISP 1 is DISPLAY 1, DISP 2 is DISPLAY 2)
Note the space between DISP and 1 or 2!

2. To install the drivers please proceed as described by S3 Incorporated
in next part of this README!

3) S3 OS/2 2.x Drivers - Installation - README file of S3 Incorporated
======================================================================
Note: The installation procedure has changed significantly from
that used for the previous release of the S3 drivers. In
particular, the installation must now be done from a floppy
disk. The previous method of copying files to the hard disk
before running the installation program cannot be used.

Installation Considerations
---------------------------
  1. The installation process assumes that the user knows the
maximum vertical refresh rate as well as the maximum
resolution of the monitor. Before proceeding, you must
create two floppy disks with VOLUME LABEL named DISP 1 and
DISP 2. (DISP 1 is DISPLAY 1, DISP 2 is DISPLAY 2). Also,
note that you can only install from a floppy disk.

  2. When installing the S3 driver the standard IBM VGA driver
     must installed first.

  3. The S3 driver will not install unless an S3 chip-based
card is installed in the machine at the time of driver
     installation.

  4. If S3 drivers (1.2, 1.1, or 1.0) have previously been
installed, rebooting OS/2 after installing OS/2 2.1 will
result in an error message (SYS1719) for the file
\OS2\MDOS\VENH.SYS. Simply press "Enter" and continue to
     install the S3 drivers.

  6. These drivers are for the S3 86C911/924 and 86C80X/928
     chips with a AT&T 491-compatible RAMDAC and the 86C928
     with a Brooktree Bt485 RAMDAC.

  7. The REXX language program must be installed to run S3's
     install utility program.

Installation Instructions
-------------------------
  1. Make sure you have all open data files saved before
     installing the S3 drivers.

  2. Make sure all Seamless Windows applications are closed.
(Seamless applications are windows applications that run
on top of the PM Desktop.)

  3. Open an OS/2 command prompt (windowed or full screen)

  4. Insert diskette #1 labeled DISP 1 into the floppy drive.

  5. Change to the floppy drive (A: or B:) into which you have
     inserted the driver diskette.

  6. Type S3INSTL and press "Enter". You need to be in the
drive where the drivers are to run S3INSTL.CMD.
     (example:YES - A:>S3INSTL, or B:>S3INSTL, and NOT
     C:>A:S3INSTL!).

  7. When prompted by the Display Driver Install dialog, select
Primary Display and then click the OK button.

  8. Select the S3 801/805/911/924/928 Evaluation Boards option
from the Primary Display Adapter Type dialog.

  9. When the Select Display Resolution dialog appears, select
the desired resolution and scan rate. Be careful not to
choose a resolution or scan rate higher than your monitor
     supports.

10.The Source Directory dialog will be displayed. Make
sure the source directory is set to the location you are
     installing from and select Install.

11.The Installation Program may pause and display prompts
to overwrite certain files. Please answer YES for each
     file.

12.When the installation is done with diskette #1, insert
diskette #2 and continue installing the S3 drivers.

13.Once the installation is complete, you will be returned
to the Display Driver Install main menu. Select Cancel to
     exit the installation program.

14.After you select Cancel, you will be given a message
stating that you "Must Shutdown and Restart your system
for the changes to take effect". Select OK to continue
back to the OS/2 command prompt.

15.At this point you must shut down the system and reboot.
After you reboot your system will come up with your newly
     installed driver.
