Installation Instructions
-------------------------
 1) Uninstall any previously installed versions of ShopAssist using the Add/Remove Programs option in Windows Control Panel.
(Agree to remove any shared dlls which the uninstaller indicates are no longer being used by the system.)
In Windows Explorer, delete any remaining files in the C:\SA\ directory.

 2) Move the Zip file you have downloaded to an empty temporary directory, if it is not already in one (e.g. C:\Temp\).

 3) Unzip the file Shopxxx.zip, if you have not already done so (where xxx represents the version of the software contained in the Zip file). Pkunzip, Winzip or any similar unzipping program can be used for this purpose.

 4) Run Setup.exe, either by typing [path]Setup.exe and pressing the Return key in the Windows Run box, or by double clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer or similar file manager.

 5) This program will
    (a) create a directory called C:\SA\ off the root directory on drive C, if it doesn't already exist
    (b) decompress all the necessary files to the C:\SA\ directory
    (c) install the Borland Database Engine and ReportSmith Runtime Viewer in the Program Files directory
    (d) create a ShopAssist icon on the Windows Start menu

 6) See the Help file for important information regarding the setting up of ShopAssist on network drives (terminals).

Note the following:
1. The computer **must** be restarted when prompted to do so at the end of the installation.
2. Under Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista you must be logged in with administrator rights to do the installation. Furthermore, because Windows maintains a separate profile for each user, ShopAssist must be installed in the user profile under which it will later be used.
3. On a clean machine:
 a. A default printer must be installed and selected in Control Panel > Printers before running ShopAssist.
 b. The appropriate currency symbol and short date format (with a four-digit year) must be specified in Windows Control Panel > Regional.

 Known Issues
 1. Under Windows XP, Setup.exe may not run at all, or the installation may fail, if Service Pack 2 has been installed.
Problem: Windows XP Service Pack 2 deletes, and fails to re-instate, a necessary file Autoexec.nt from the Windows system32 folder
 Fix:
If the main Windows folder is named WINNT, copy the file Autoexec.nt from the Windows repair folder (WINNT\Repair\) to the Windows system folder (WINNT\System32\)
If the main Windows folder is named WINDOWS, copy the file Autoexec.nt from the Windows repair folder (WINDOWS\Repair\) to the Windows system folder (WINDOWS\System32\)
For your convenience, a small batch file Winxp_preinstall.~ba has been provided to perform the task for you. In Windows Explorer, rename the file to Winxp_preinstall.bat and run the file by double-clicking on it. This batch file should only be run if Setup.exe does not run correctly.
After the missing file has been restored, the computer must be restarted before running Setup.exe.

2. Running ShopAssist under Windows Vista
ShopAssist may not run correctly under Windows Vista default security settings. One or more of the following will allow you to run ShopAssist under Windows Vista.
i Deactivate User Access Control (UAC). To do this, go to Vista Control Panel, go to Search and type in User Access Control (or UAC). An option will appear allowing you to deactivate User Access Control. You will need to be logged in with Administrator rights to do this.
ii Run ShopAssist as Administrator. To do this, find ShopAssists main executable file (c:\sa\sa.exe) in Windows Explorer (it must be the executable file itself, not a link to the file), right-click on the file, click Properties and enable Run As Administrator.
iii Run ShopAssist in Compatibility mode. To do this, find ShopAssists main executable file (c:\sa\sa.exe) in Windows Explorer (it must be the executable file itself, not a link to the file), right-click on the file, click Properties and enable Run This Program In Compatibility Mode.
iv In Windows Explorer (after installing ShopAssist, but before running ShopAssist for the first time) find the file vista_create_manifest.~ba in the temporary install directory and rename it to vista_create_manifest.bat. Double-click on the file (vista_create_manifest.bat) to run it. If successful, a new file c:\sa\sa.exe.manifest will be created. This file, if present in the c:\sa\ directory, will request elevated privileges for ShopAssist when it starts up.
iv In ShopAssist, go to Managerial > Preferences > Advanced 1, enable the Windows XP And Vista > Run With Elevated Privileges option (if not already enabled) and click the Apply button.

3. 'Merging The Configuration File Has Failed'
You may receive this error message toward the end of the installation if another program installed (or possibly didn't correctly uninstall) an earlier 16-bit version of the Borland Database Engine (BDE).
 Fix:
If no other programs are using the BDE, find the file idapi32.cfg, using the Windows Search box or in Windows Explorer (ShopAssist installs it by default to the c:\Program Files\Borland\Common Files\BDE\ directory), and rename it to something else (e.g. idapi32bak.cfg). Run the install again and it should proceed smoothly.
