===============================================================

---------------------------------------------------------------
The ZIP archive should contain the following files:-
---------------------------------------------------------------

   ------------------------------------------------------------
   HVEDITTT.TXT - This information file
FONTHELP.TXT - Installing Windows' fonts - and web links to
                  information on fonts
   ------------------------------------------------------------
. . . and several versions of the HVFont in TrueType format
   ------------------------------------------------------------
HVEDIT.TTF - HVEdit - the Normal version of the font
   HVEDITL.TTF - HVEdit Light - a less bold version
HVEDITN.TTF - HVEdit Narrow - 80% of the "Normal" width
HVEDITW.TTF - HVEdit Wide - 135% of the "Normal" width
   ------------------------------------------------------------
The LICENCED package also contains an alternative set of
font files with a .TT_ extension. These are identical to
the .TTF files except that the space character (ASCII 32)
   is blank.
   ------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------
To install the Windows TrueType fonts
---------------------------------------------------------------

1. UNZIP the archive into a working directory. (NEVER use the
Windows' font directory as a working directory).

2. Go to Control Panel, select the Fonts applet, and select
View, Details, to see Font Names and Filenames.

3. If you are installing the licenced version, first REMOVE any
evaluation fonts previously installed. To do this:-
Select the fonts "HVEdit - Evaluation", etc.
Right Click for a Context Menu and select Delete,
Confirm the request to remove the font(s).

4. While in the Fonts applet, select File, Install New Font.
Navigate to the working directory and select and install the
   "HVEdit" etc., TrueType font(s).

---------------------------------------------------------------
HVEdit Font Specification
---------------------------------------------------------------

The HVEdit family of fonts all use the HVFont variation of the
MS-DOS "OEM" Character set - sometimes called PC-8 or the
CodePage 437 character set. (Windows font listers - like our
ShowFont utility - show this as a "SYMBOL" character set.)

The fonts are monospaced ("fixed pitch"), and are classified as
"Sans Serif" in the "Modern" font family.

The HVFont character glyphs have been specially modified to
produce a highly legible screen font, ideally suited to text
and source code editors.

The HVEdit TrueType fonts use the normal HVFont design
philosophy (see http://www.procon.com.au/HVFont.htm) except
that they do NOT include the control characters (ASCII 0-31).

---------------------------------------------------------------
LICENCED version: Using the alternative fonts
---------------------------------------------------------------

The LICENCED package contains a set of font files with a .TT_
extension. These are identical to the .TTF files except that
the space character (ASCII 32) is blank. These can be used as
an alternative to the standard files if you do not want the
"dotted grid" effect.

To use the alternative font files.

1. Copy the .TT_ files to a DIFFERENT working directory from
that containing the standard .TTF files.

2. Rename the files so that the extension is TTF. You can do
this from a command line by typing
     REN HVEDIT*.TT_ *.TTF

3. Go to Control Panel, select the Fonts applet, and select
View, Details, to see Font Names and Filenames.

4. If you have previously installed the evaluation fonts or the
standard font set, REMOVE them. To do this:-

     Select the fonts "HVEdit", etc.
Right Click for a Context Menu and select Delete,
Confirm the request to remove the font(s).

5. While in the Fonts applet, select File, Install New Font.
Navigate to the directory containing the renamed font files
and select and install the font(s).

---------------------------------------------------------------
EVALUATION version
---------------------------------------------------------------

The EVALUATION versions of the fonts show hollow boxes in
place of some alphabetic characters.

The EVALUATION versions use the dotted space character - and so
shows the grid effect. (If you wish to see what the font looks
like WITHOUT the grid, download and install the HVTerminal
evaluation package. The HVTerminal font is designed to be used
in a terminal window but many Window's editors and word
processors can also use it.)
