These are selections from the "BigTile" studies: experiments in scale-(128x120 pixels)-
and optical dynamics-(all of the structure lines in these tiles are rigorously rectilinear; all
the horizontals in the xgold2 series are parallel and uncanted)-with original Windows background
screentiles. These tiles are designed to be used with the Windows monitor colors set to 16 bit
HighColor, 24 bit TrueColor, or 32bit TrueColor, and to "square" concisely into the screen area of
standard 15" monitors set for 640x480 screen resolution. They can be used at any resolution, but the
"squaring" effect is diminished at higher resolutions. They are designed also to be used with the
Windows taskbar set to "autohide": they appear to rest upon, and to be supported by, its retracted line.
To use these graphics, simply unzip the Xtiles.zip package into the Windows directory, or a
user created Windows subdirectory. They can then be accessed for desktop selection by rightclicking
an empty desktop area, then leftclicking the "properties" label on the consequent menu. The Display
Properties control panel will then appear, and the graphics will be listed in the "wallpaper" window
of the Background tab for preferential selection. If they are not in the primary wallpaper listing,
leftclick the "browse" button to locate the directory that contains them. Leftclick the Display arrow
in the Background panel to set the preference for "tile".

*If any recipient of these graphics, however, were to be seized with sudden thermal
and spontaneous passion for charitable contribution to the extension of these studies, I and
my four cats-("Buster"; "Angie"; "Zorra"; and "Bster***")- would be humbly grateful for the
increased ability to purchase vital body heat-(this is January in Indianapolis!)-, and general
lifesupplies.
**I would be interested to see how the tiles would translate into physical ceramics, or VCT.
It seems to me that they could, as such, be quite dynamic in the appropriate application. I
would, of course, be happy to discuss such possible commercial applications with any
seriously interested persons.
