     VReader5 for the Psion Series 5 v1.01
               February 4, 1998
==============================================

This file contains installation information.
Please refer to the Help file included with the program for usage instructions.

INSTALLATION
============

    [for PSISETUP users, a CTL file is provided. However, it will transfer all the
     language files. Please choose the one you intend to use and manually rename it
     to VReader5.MSG, refer to item 4 below]

    1) Make sure you can see the "System" folder (see "Preferences"
       from the System screen)

    2) Create the folder \SYSTEM\APPS\VREADER5 (on either C: or D:)
       At this point, you could also create a default folder to store your
       etexts (if wished), and another one (recommended) to store the files
       where VReader5 stores text display parameters.

    3) Copy (using PsiWin 2.0 or another method) the following files
       into this new folder :

          VReader5.AIF
          VReader5.APP
          VReader5.MBM
          VReader5.HLP (this one is optional, you can ignore it, or copy it
                         now and delete it later if no longer needed)

    4) Choose among the messages files the one that matches your language,
       copy it into the same folder and rename it as

          VReader5.MSG

       The language files are named VReader5.Mxx, where xx is the country
       telephone prefix for the "main" country using that language.

       Currently available are :
          .M33 for French
          .M44 for English
          .M49 for German

       Translators have announced files in
          Hungarian and Italian...

       At the time of this writing, the Help file is only available in English.
       If you notice in the distribution kit files with .H44, .H33 etc extensions,
       then the previous sentence is no longer true, and you can rename to .HLP
       whichever file suits you.

       In case your language is not included, or if you are not satisfied
       with the translation or the shortcuts, you can create your own version
       from the file named .M00. Refer to the internal help for instructions.

    5) VReader5's icon should now be visible in the Extras bar, so ... click it!

ABOUT VReader5
==============

    The use of VReader5 should be obvious, and the internal Help facility
    should answer most of the questions. Feel free to open any text file and
    play around with the menu options, VReader5 operates in read-only mode
    on the text files, so you can't delete or modify a file by accident.

    The program has been tested at length, and appears to have no blatant bugs,
    but if you find something or have some comments and/or suggestions for next
    versions, please eMail me at :

        jldamnet@pca.fr

    In case you got it from some other source, updates of VReader5 can be found
    on
        http://www.nwt.com/ftp/pub/s5/apps/textedit/vrXXX.zip
    and
        http://www.pelicansoft.com/ftp/mirrors/nwt/s5/apps/textedit/vrXXX.zip

    (where XXX is the rev number, e.g.101 for this one)

    If and when I manage to get a web page, updates will also be there, of course...

Encrypt-It! UPDATE
==================
    VReader5 can be used in conjunction with Peter Csutora's Encrypt-it!, to strongly
    protect confidential files.
    If you run a version of Encrypt-It! released prior to 1.1 (check at top of first
    screen in Help), then you should update it.
    If you don't know about Encrypt-It!, then you should probably get it since it is
    simply the best way to protect your private data. Not convinced ? have a look at:

          http://www.palmscape.com/Products/EncryptIt/

FREEWARE STATUS
===============

    VReader5 is a FREEWARE program. You may freely distribute it or otherwise make
    it available, as long as :
    1/ all files in the package are included,
    2/ you make no blatant profit other than charging the media and copy costs.

    The translated message files were prepared by several people, the name of the
    translator for the one in use appears in the About screen.

    If you happen to create a specific language file, please send it to me so
    other users can benefit.
    If you deeply modify a language file, please include your name in it so the
    original translator doesn't suffer from your mistakes ;-)
    On the other hand, if you don't modify the language file, there is no use in
    putting your name in it, please respect other's work

    Source code is not generally available, but if you're teaching about bad
    programming practices, or otherwise have a good reason to ask for it, you can
    try to convince me...

CREDITS
=======

     => Thanks to the beta testers, they performed a great job in chasing my poor
        coding, and brought a lot of suggestions as to how VReader5 should be.
        Most prominent figures that come to mind are Martin Guthrie, Steve Bolton,
        Stewart Page and Eberhard Rompf, but I'm sure I miss some others
     => Thanks also to Lieuwe de Vries for his excellent MBMView program that proved
        invaluable to prepare the icon file (I even stole his Open File icon !).
     => Thanks to Peter Csutora, for his cooperation in bringing to life the link
        between his excellent Encrypt-It! and VReader5.
     => Well, yes I also stole the Search icon from Psion's Program application.
