I have heard of a league here in the midwest, or the great lakes area I'm
not sure which it was. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it
is running this year, who to get in contact with about competing in the
league, what events are included and is there a schedule already made up,
if so where could I find it?

This is an interesting post. I spoke with several individuals about setting
up a mid-west league. Last year, several persons eager to capitalize on the
"League" biz convinced several other to pool some money together. Seems
these folk knew all along that the person who they allowed to be in charge
was known to be a bit of a con artist of sorts. But away they gave their
money. (Who said a fool and his money can't be parted.) Anyway, this person
in charge took the money and nothing has materialized.

I have spoke with Ken Nealy off and on for a year now and would like to help
get a mid-west league started. (Just send me your money. Not really.) The
main thing to getting a league together is to have a method of ranking the
contestants. You will need to get somewhat the permission of the
events, although that is not entirely true. The results from events
which are within your geographic area is public information.

It would be up to the league to get not only the results but also a
listing of the contestants. The listing can be used to start a mailing
list. (I think we have about 750 individuals on a mailing list we
started about 3 years ago.) There are several ways to include others on
the mailing list but thats up to the league.

Roger Chewning once told me, the only way to get something started is
to start it yourself.

No one is going to do anything until someone does something.

If you need any help I'm sure Roger, Chuck Sigal, or myself would be
glad to provide you with whatever you may need. The biggest thing is
self confidence. Like NIKE, "Just Do It!"

You asked about the Midwest League.
Since I don't see anyone else answering you I'll take the humble liberty
to do so myself.

For info on the Midwest League you should write to:

     Rich Yedinak
     c/o Mackinaw Kite Company
     116 Washington St.
     Grand Haven, ML
     49417

I hope this helps you get the resoures you require.

BTW...I'm not connected with the league yet. I got the address from the
lattest copy of Kiting, the AKA journal. I am however the event
coordinator for a local Canadian event The On The Edge Sport Kite
Championship (shameless plug) held each July in Ajax (just east of
Toronto), July 20-21. We have been aproached to join the league as an
event on the circuit but as yet have not made any descisions.
If you or any other flyers out there wish info on our event don't
hesitate to e-mail me. ( chris.lee@sympatico.ca )

Good winds and Good will from Canada.
