Russel Coutts is therefore the first Skipper from New Zeland that wins the Americas Cup whereas Dennis Conner is the first skipper in the more than 140 years history of the Americas Cup to loose the Cup for a second time... It is too bad that the USA had such a poor team - Connor, et. al, and boat! The USA was embarrassed beyond belief by the ego of a political player in the sport of sailing. But, after all, the America's Cup has always centered on politics rather than sport! Until it comes around to the fine, intellectual sport that sailing is - especially in the lesser known divisions of the sport, it will be nothing more than pitting money against money and resources against resources. Having been a world competitor in class racing, I know too well what role politics (money, power, etc.) plays in the highest levels of all sports - and sailing is no stranger to it. The KIWI's deserve all the accalades they get.
