I've never had a dog eat a kite, though I've had one try to chase it around. I took a few dives at him and his owners called him off. I did have an interesting night flying experience. It was dust, actually. I could just see the silhouette of the kite if I kept it above the level of the trees on the horizon. Every so often I'd feel a little ping on one of the lines. Then I noticed that there were a couple of bats chasing the lines and taking stabs at them. I knew they were bats because of the little clicking sound they make with their wings. I don't think that they could really bite through the line. They'd be sorry if they did. But it was interesting to see them go after the lines; kind of like flying a little auxiliary fleet of bats. Anyone else had any bat/kite rendezvous? Well, way back in the old days while in the service of his majest King Dick at the Royal Thai AFB in Tahklie Thailand, we model aircraft fliers were flying an interior lighted model at night on U-control lines ( kinda like a kite with a motor) - well anyway, shortly after takeoff a hard jolt was felt on the control lines, then again and again... It took us a while to figure out that we were hitting bats with the thin metal control lines. They obviously could not get out of the way quick enough or could not detect the fast moving lines. Now that I'm flying nice quiet kites I feel much better ! Just another war story from ...
