For anyone who knows me (Carolyn Weir) I have gotten back together with my husband and we are being transfered to Texas. Don't worry, its a good thing. He has made alot of changes and ya'll will finally meet him at the Miami International Kite Festival the 2nd weekend in April. Could anyone give me any helpful info on kiting in the Galveston area? Please let there be SOME KITING in that area! Carolyn, You are in good luck. There is a beach in Galveston called Apffell park. The winds are great,the beach is about 100 acres and it is very flat. This is the sight of the "Great Texas Shoot-out" kite festival. The beach is also a favorite buggy site for many Texas and Oklahoma kiters. Keith Anderson flys his buggy there. Wayne, You get to Apffell Park by going down the main road in front of Steward Beach. (Sorry don't know the roads name) Go on the road until it dead-ends. At the Stop sign turn right and go until you get to the water. You are now in Apfell Park. For those that may plan on going to Galveston to fly. You cant get lost with these directions as there is only one road to all beaches in Galveston.
